"The Squeaky Wheel" or "Why didn't I Think of That?" Part II

So we've let this Koran BBQ story marinate for a day, lets see where we're at...

-As mentioned yesterday, CBS and ABC led their broadcasts with this story.

- According to the AP, General Petraeus, the commander of American forces in Afghanistan...

"...spoke Wednesday with Afghan President Karzai about the matter, according to a military spokesman Col. Erik Gunhus. "They both agreed that burning of a Quran would undermine our effort in Afghanistan, jeopardize the safety of coalition troopers and civilians," Gunhus said, and would "create problems for our Afghan partners ... as it likely would be Afghan police and soldiers who would have to deal with any large demonstrations."

Also form the AP...

"Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said that the pastor's plans were outrageous, and along with Defense Secretary Robert Gates, urged Jones to cancel the event.

Also...

"Actress Angelina Jolie, in her capacity as a goodwill ambassador for the U.N.'s refugee agency, condemned the protest..."

Aaaaaand...

"The Vatican denounced the protest..."

Furthermore...

"U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder during a meeting Tuesday with religious leaders to discuss recent attacks on Muslims and mosques around the U.S. called the planned burning idiotic and dangerous..."[all quotes from the AP]

All of this attention for a fringe lunatic pastor with a congregation of fifty. I present to you this; Who has given this kook the stage on which to present his ideological gibberish? Who is so afraid to offend that they will clutch their hands to their chest in righteous indignation, gasp and plead "this man in no way represents how we feel about muslims in general or Islam as a whole?" Who has whipped up this media frenzy?

  1. What hurt relations with Afghanistan was going in there like freedom fighters...making promises we didn't keep....withdrawing our support...and letting the country fall to opium drug lords. Good planning Mr. Bush.

  4. A.J. - totally unrelated, but what do you think about the overdue tax bill for Capitol Hill employees totaling $9.3M? I read an article that said the average unpaid tax bill is "$12,787 among the Senate's delinquent taxpayers..."
